The 4-day training course, termed Introduction to OT&E Course is designed to give participants a basic understanding of the principles of effective operational test & evaluation, including the language of OT&E and the process of translating user requirements into a well-designed test plan.  Participants will also practice basic OT&E test planning, test conduct, and post-test evaluation to determine the operational effectiveness and suitability of a simple system during a hands-on team exercise.

Examine the key concepts and elements of OT&E

Understand how test fits into the acquisition process and OT&E's relationship to DT&E

Recognize well-written user requirements are how they are interpreted

Determine the user's concept of operations and critical operational issues

Understand/define measures of effectiveness/suitability/performance

Understand the challenges of testing highly integrated systems

Define Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) testing and understand its challenges

Understand the Test Risk Management process

Understand the use of modeling and simulation in OT&E

Assess approaches to determining operational effectiveness and suitability

Create operational test objectives and scenarios

Practice how to plan for an efficient OT&E test programme

Establish clear scope of test plan and identify tasks involved

Suggested OT&E test report format and common error avoidance

Evaluate and compare test outcomes and performance criteria

This 4-day NTPS OT&E course is intended for staff personnel, not for those who would actually execute OT&E testing.  This short "Introduction to OT&E" course does not certify the graduates to execute OT&E tests.
